Katrin’s Webdesign

Since about 1999 I am constantly present with own stuff on the World Wide Web. Back then I was a member of my school’s Computer Science Club and our teacher taught us basic HTML. And we are talking 1999, far away from times of Web 2.0, major XML based languages, etc. In self study I learned a lot more and kept on going. I am not sure but for at least 7 years I own my own webspace and domains. I am not a professional and even though I thought about becoming a professional webdesigner many years ago, I decided against a career in that, mainly because I have my own taste and standards which often don’t get along with customer wishes, also I am not eager to learn PHP or JavaScript in detail.

Nevertheless I created some simple websites. I had many fanpages which are all closed now and I put up the website for the Official German Nightwish Fan Club from scratch. I am not a member anymore and not at all interested and the site is in other people’s hands now and also handled in a Content Management System, something I’ve always been refusing to use. I also don’t use a heavy loaded program like Dreamweaver to create my pages, because I prefer my own clean code and don’t want to spend hours cleaning my files from useless crap – so yeah I code it all by hand in Phase 5 HTML editor. I am so tr00.

I am always willed to help out people creating a website or taking responsibility for a project. Depending on the circumstances I even do it for free especially if there is a personal interest involved.

My current sites and projects are as follows:

F.-A.-Brockhaus Gymnasium Leipzig
This is the new website of the school I went to until 2001. I am still in contact with my above mentioned CS teacher. In 2010 the school had it’s 125th anniversary and I was there and asked why nobody is really doing a neat layout for this. My teacher told me that the students are not really willed to do it and she has no time. So I offered to create a friendlier and cleaner layout and in February 2011 the new design went online and got positive feedback – at least I was told ;)

Of course schools lack money, so I did this for free :D

Ingenieurdienstleistungen Gräber
One of my mother’s coworkers came to me asking if I could create a simple website for her father’s company as a Christmas present. This is the result. A complete unusual colour scheme for me, but it was exactly what she requested.

Lost in Emotion
I think I don’t have to say much about that, because you are currently on that particular website ;) Even though I said in the beginning I refuse to use Content Management Systems, this site is meanwhile built within WordPress which is no CMS tool per se, however it allows the blog software to act as such. First I just wanted to add the blog, but then decided to remodel all the content into the system. Another new experience for me.

Lonnie’s Place Fanlistings Collective
This is my collective of fanlistings I am listed on. This is still going under my very first screen name which I do not use anymore (due to the Tuomas Holopainen fangirl fight *headdesk*), but it is under my main domain, containing the name and yeah I am too lazy to transfer it to Lost In Emotion. Also the collective is not very current and I really need to work on it.
Many people do not understand fanlistings, but I think they are nice little things you can play around with and show what you like and/or dislike. It is just for fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
As of now I also have 5 fanlistings of my own. They are:
Jukka Nevalainen (The only reasonable person in Nightwish)
Máté Kamarás
Marcus Loeber
Kamarás vs. Loeber
Sebastian Fitzek
